The wedding feast in Rampur was a grotesque parody of celebration. The village square was filled with long tables laden with food, but the centerpiece was not some ornate decoration. It was Meera, naked and spread-eagled on a massive, low wooden table placed in the center of it all. Her wrists and ankles were bound with thick, ceremonial ropes to rings at the corners, leaving her body completely open and vulnerable. A garland of marigolds and jasmine was draped around her neck, a cruel mockery of a bride's adornment.
